PWD begins ‘Saguni yatra’ with polytechnic students
Jaipur: To ensure transparency in workflow and to generate impartial reports on road quality, the PWD has begun Saguni, a distinctive statewide rally, from Sunday. It would continue till May 10.
The first day of the rally, commenced from Sriganganagar district, also commemorated the Rajasthan Day celebration of the state govt.
In this rally, the PWD engineers would collaborate with final year students from govt polytechnic colleges and undertake a two-month comprehensive survey to formulate detailed reports on the conditions and remedial measures for PWD roads across the state.
A senior official from the quality control wing of the PWD said, based on this assessment, PWD would determine the next course actions – like implementing disciplinary measures against any negligent contractors/engineers or directing contractors to subsequently execute the restoration work.
"Over the years, these contractors and engineers are working in coordination and have established a 'relation' whilst working together. Now, with the third-party participation – the young students from the polytechnic colleges - the govt can acquire access to an 'unbiased' report," the official added.
The department has enlisted 15 students from each of the erstwhile 33 districts.
